The Taurus-Scorpio axis:
In the wheel of the 12 signs we have 6 “axes” as we call them. These are the signs that are opposite each other. It has been said that there are not 12 signs, but 6 with two faces each. Every Full Moon sees the illumination of an axis because it is when the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth from the Sun, thus allowing for full illumination of its Earth face. And in turn, we have two signs of the zodiac to contemplate, or perhaps just the one divided into the two.
Sometimes is easiest for me to understand archetypes as people having a conversation. For example, a conversation between Scorpio and Taurus might sound like…
Taurus- “Hey! How is life these days?”
Scorpio- “Wow, the world and life and existence! It is so rich, deep, intense, powerful, crazy! How about you?”
Taurus- “Ahhh, isn’t life just so simple and beautiful? I just enjoyed a delicious smoothie.”
Taurus- “Hey what’s been up with you lately?”
Scorpio replies, “I’ve had deep transformation and spiritual mystical experiences and my whole life has changed forever, I’m a totally different person! And you?”
Taurus- “Life is unfolding in a steady, patterned way that has ups and downs but in general its all good”
Of course, no one person is just one sign, we are far more rich and complex beings than that. But that is exactly what this polarity is all about- the richness of life. Scorpio- the intensity of the depths of our aliveness. Taurus- the simplicity and steadfastness of the physical realm of our being-ness. Both relate to the experience to be found in this thing called humanity. Taurus helps us tap into the depths of our embodiment as experienced through the senses. Scorpio takes us into the parts of our being that cannot be seen- our “emotional senses” if you will- our desires, longings, passions, love and hatred, the heart. Both reflect very real aspects of what it means to be this thing we call Human.
Think back to the New Moon in Scorpio that happened on November 18th of 2017. Was some part of your humanity lost then that it may be reborn now in a new way? Did some part of your inner being “die” at that time, one that is possibly feeling the healing love of Venus now? That lunation marked the part of Venus’s passage into the Underworld where she surrenders the power of her second chakra for transformation. This chakra is closely related to the Scorpio archetype and now, as she just regained that vestment on the 17th, this Full Moon may be crystalizing the lesson of transformation seeded then.
This may manifest as themes around our power, creativity, passions, sacred sexuality, pleasure, the needs of the heart in intimate connection. Have we learned and incorporated what mother Moon may have been asking us to learn in these past 6 months? Scorpio teaches us about aliveness in many ways- through its understanding of death, loving passionately and broken hearts, deep hatred for the parts of existence that cause us pain, and the potential to unite this with Taurus wisdom of letting it all go and just surrendering to the present moment. Taurus brings peace to the Scorpio intensity. Scorpio brings depth and honest reflection to the harder aspects of being alive.
This crystallization is highlighted as the Moon sextiles Saturn just prior to coming into full illumination. Saturn in Capricorn is teaching us all some lessons about real life here on Earth. When something is reflected, it is known in a new way. This Scorpio Moon reflects Taurus Solar Light. The will of the emotional body reflecting the consciousness of the pleasure of the present moment. Take a moment, pause. Breathe that in. In every moment, if we pause we can see where we are acting based on some unconscious desire. But if we pause and tune into the present moment we find truth, we find love, and that desire melts away. That desire can return again to love.
Jupiter retrograding in Scorpio since March 11th has been asking us to look at our relationship with this archetype in a new way. I think in our modern times, where we have lost the freedom and pleasure of just simply existing and being, we have developed an exaggerated Scorpio energy in a desperate urge to feel alive. But what we may actually be lacking is the Taurean Being-ness to balance that. Scorpio knows they are unique, special and interesting because they are naturally attuned to the depths of their being, which is endless and infinite. Taurus knows their value because they are embodied in the beauty and richness of the senses which inform us about the present moment.
A practice we can engage with at this time is simple seated meditation where we focus on feeling all the sensations throughout the body. See how subtle you can get- notice the sensation of the hairs moving on your skin, the feeling of your breath through your nostrils, your heart pumping the blood through your veins, the weight of your eyelids. And just be in you Being.
May we allow for the Illumination of whatever is asking to be born tomorrow. May we unite our depths and simple being-ness. For of the two the third thing is born- and even though we may see opposition in a Full Moon, we can know that this serves for the birthing of something new.
