This New Moon occurs at 15’ 17” Sagittarius at 11:20 pm PDT 12/6/18 and 2:20am EDT 12/7/18

There is a lot of water and fire in the chart right now lending itself to a vision of steam or clouds. Mercury has just retrograded back into Scorpio as Venus entered the next day and the New Moon is at the 15th degree of Sagittarius conjunct Jupiter squaring Mars and Neptune about to conjunct in Pisces; it’s like the depth of our experience is being both simultaneously cleansed and ignited toward expansion. It can feel a little bit like trying to plan a vacation from the bath- which one first? Maybe at times meditation and clarity are more important than action for actions sake.

Despite the New Moon being in the sign of outgoing and far-reaching Sagittarius, there is a lot of Yin energy around this moon. The chart even has a downward pointing triangle, symbol of the womb and the sacred feminine. This is the deep well of creation that makes all things in this universe. And so, there is an essence of turning inward as if it is asking us to listen, listen! Listen to what is asking to be born, and when in the quiet space of our subconscious some unrealized fear arises, how do we respond? This New Moon asks things of us that are out of the normal space-time equation. She asks us to be still and listen to our inner knowing without judgement.

Sagittarius is an archetype that seeks truth and essence. It is bound to Natural Law, which at times can come crushing down in harsh realities when humanity insists on trying to live outside of them, like the fires in California recently. In square to Pisces which is the mystical beyond this realm, this moon illuminates the tension between living as limitless spiritual beings and the reality that we are bound by the natural laws of this dimension.

There has been much focus in the New Age community on the spirit and the soul, we are said to be moving into the Age of Aquarius but it certainly seems still tied to the Piscean religions of old. This is a time where dogmatism does not serve any longer, on any side, but ushers in a deep compassion and rendering of passions with a humble heart of understanding. If we reject everyone that is not as “woke” as us, are we not the same as the church was in historical times?

The Moon’s last aspect before joining the Sun for rebirth is the square to Mars/Neptune in Pisces. The sign of the regenerating fish, Pisces is the repository of the collective unconscious, a place of non-discrimination for it is by its very nature the place of merging. It can be a hard place to make decisions from, especially with Mercury stationed, but it is a great place to form new perspectives. If there is something you have struggled to find compassion with now is a beautiful time to open yourself to new perspective, especially as Mercury has just stationed direct.

Forgiveness does not have to mean we welcome in more of what hurt us, it means we are able to feel love and compassion for that person in spite of it. Pisces allows us to see and feel how we too hold the same potential of the person who hurt us. Oftentimes it is the pain of acknowledging our own darkness that is most frightful. We can then begin the true process of forgiveness, forgiving ourselves simultaneously with the other.

If we could all forgive ourselves with no problem this whole world would look a lot different. But what is the true block towards this? What makes us feel stuck in a state of separation? I know I have struggled to forgive perceived terrible things in others and myself, yet in moments of love and gratitude I can also feel total understanding. Mars conjuncts Neptune the day after the Moon is reborn, a meeting that may be cleansing our willpower and anger in the ocean of oneness. If we can embrace this energy, we may be able to release some old grief that has been festering for far too long.

The key with Neptunian energy is to make it conscious as it can often operate from unseen places and in that case, can become nefarious. How can we chose consciousness in a sea of the sleeping? In the vast ocean of the all we have the aid of Mars, our fateful warrior to summon courage as we battle our demons to earn the awakened state that allows us to then paint with the endless array of colors and primordial energies contained there.

Around this moon there is a grand water trine between Chiron, Mercury and the North Node of fate. This speaks literally to our emotional bodies in response to our perceptions regarding our wounds, childhood traumas and the ability to re-orient ourselves away from the “wounded” and into the “healer” part of Chiron’s common name. Chiron uses research in all of the alchemical and mystical arts to finally rise from a state of self-centered focus to learn that the true healing is the gift of healing to others. In order to ascend, Chiron eventually gives of himself to free Prometheus from eternal suffering and restore the liberator of humanity to the world.

This is echoed again in the chart when we look at how the archetypes of Neptune, Pisces and the 12th house resonates with the 12th card of the Tarot, The Hanged Man. Pictured as a man hanging upside down from one leg between two trees, he is an image of the suspension between two worlds- the Upper and Lower. It can also be seen further as the suspension within the four dimension of the two trees representing human nature and the Above and the Below. These are the realms we must walk in and they require orientation to our present circumstance.

Like Odin who sacrificed himself on the Ygdrisil tree, the hanged man has sacrificed some aspect of himself for the attainment of higher wisdom. His perspective is inverted as he drops coins from his pocket symbolizing a separation with the material realm and freeing the soul from corporeal bondage. He is about looking at things from a different perspective but also by practicing inversions literally, we are awakening the third eye through allowing blood to flow there, purifying the mind and releasing tension in the spine. By hanging upside down, we are also facilitating the cleansing of the lymphatic system, the core of the immune system also associated with Piscean journeys through humanities collective spiritual waste being assimilated before rebirth.

Like the Hanged Man, Pisces is a symbol of cleansing, wisdom, faith and sacrifice. In this archetype and in the 12th house there is the potential of great faith and wisdom that can come at the cost of suffering or sacrifice, the choice is ours. The Hanged Man is mystical in his symbolic offering ascertaining faith that something will be gained by his sacrifice. It implies a severance with material existence, allowing the soul to find freedom as it transitions from one place of consciousness to the next. Pisces and the 12th house are the end of the zodiac wheel and represent endings, dissolution and the re-merging of things before transitioning to the next state of consciousness after waking life.

Together this lunation offers a deep penetrating glance into our own subconscious, if we have the courage to look. Jupiter with the Sun and Moon are igniting our souls towards some new beginning, but there is some sacrifice required of the collective masculine at this time. Mystery schools throughout time have made ritualistic sacrificial offerings- some of which should not be repeated, but the act of sacrifice is sacred and ancient. Since magic was taken from the people, it is used today as sacrifices made to the State or Government. It is our right to take these mystical rites back and use them with consciousness for the good of all.

Make your offerings what you are willing to sacrifice at this time of your anger, drive and will and surrender to the higher architect, cosmic creatrix of this universe. Such an act requires faith and love, but it will also build it. For it requires love enough of ourselves to sacrifice ourselves to ourselves, and faith that the vision will be recieved. Mercury’s gaining momentum and Mars’s rebirth into Aries in the coming weeks will begin to unfurl the gifts of faith in time.

I will close with the symbol of the 16th degree of Sagittarius where this Moon lies

“A calm ocean; a motionless ship; lazily soaring seagulls.”

When typing I almost wrote Eagles, which would draw in the Sagittarian higher vision that guides this season. The interpretation hints at a still-point between storms or conquests. It is a place of rest and regeneration before the next phase of the journey. It is a place that we can receive visions of what our seeds will grow into. It is the place we choose to consciously create ourselves and our lives. Tend to the seeds you are planting now quietly, for there are always more storms and they will need all the love you can give them to ensure they have the best chance at flourishing.

Blessed compassion,
Zoey Wind
