In the dark of the Moon
Curl up inside her soft, silken womb
In the blackness
there is safety and solace
It’s as if she was made for me
To carry me
To nurture me
In spite of all my own undoings
Forever returning to wholeness
Inside her soft dark womb
And when I am ripe and ready
She slips me out
Fresh sunlight upon my face again and again
This New Moon in Cancer comes along with powerful alignments between many of our beautiful planets. A Cancer New Moon is alway like a high or low tide for the entire year, being that Cancer is the Moon’s favorite sign, and therefore where she is most powerful. The moon is said to correspond with our Soul in Esoteric traditions, and Cancer being her home sign reveals that the soul is imprinted by the emotional experience of the heart.
The Moon’s ever changing faces reflect the shifting nature of our souls, the phases of life, the seasons. When we observe nature she reveals the nature of experience through the great metaphor of life itself. Cancer is the sign of the poet, the bard, the beautiful artistic expression of the souls experience into form.
When we tap this fertile creative sign we can create from deep within our wombs (physical or energetic), the space that we create from deep love. It is where we sacrifice for our families, loved ones, communities and the Earth. It is the deep tenderness of our hearts that is touched when a child cries or an animal is hurt. It is the strength to create life anew again and again. It is essential to what it means to be human.
In a world that has long shamed emotions, sensitivity, self-care, nurturing and the feminine in general, the Cancer New Moon is a moment where we can reclaim these things for ourselves fiercely again and again. No matter where we are in our journey, we can choose something different. Cardinal Cancer is about initiating change so that we can continue to be together, as family, as tribe. Cancer is after all the crab, the Mamma Bear who will fiercely defend her cubs no matter what and that self-care is essential for her to do so.
Boundaries are always alive when we speak of Cancer, because the opposite sign of Capricorn is calling out to be integrated. This is especially true with Venus opposing Saturn just before this NEw Moon, revealing where in relationship we need better boundaries. Also squaring Uranus, there are powerful awakening opportunities alive right now. We can transcend previous stuck patterns of relating right now through being willing to work through things that are challenging or cause us to stumble a little with gentleness and sensitivity. Let’s do this for one another and ourselves.
Venus opposes Saturn and squares Uranus just before this New moon- letting us know where being willing to radically drop into our bodies and present moment can allow us to break old patterns of restriction, control and repression in order to rise more fully into our bold, courageous love. Self-love that is in tune with personal responsibility and a radical sense of self worth allows us to tap the infinite source within us that is unmoving. At the center of the shifting soul lies Spirit- steady, unwavering and true. Infinite, unconditional love source energy heals all, purifies all and is the generative energy source that we can create new life from.
Truth is beyond the mind. It is known by the Heart. Felt by the heart. The mind then seeks to understand, dissect, analyze and synthesize that truth. It seeks to prove or disprove it, to give it meaning. But truth is beyond the mind’s understanding. If you find some truth- seek not to dissect it and find what is wrong is with. Simply allow it to be. Cancer marks one of the divine feminine powers of knowing that is beyond the mind, where the heart beats.
Honor your inner knowing, honor what feels good, right, secure and true. For nothing lasts forever in this world, but our hearts consciousness just might.
